The programme is for people preparing for professional maternity nurse work. Previous childcare, newborn-care, maternity, nursing, midwifery or related experience is recommended; applicants without experience may be considered based on suitability.

The First 28 Newborn Academy Certificate of Completion recognizes successful completion of the applicable educational programme. It is not automatically a government licence, regulated professional licence, university qualification, or nationally accredited qualification.
